STATEMENT BY STATE REP. VINCE PEREZ ON QUORUM BREAK OVER TEXAS REDISTRICTING MAP

Dear Neighbors,

The redistricting maps proposed by Republican leaders in Austin represent the most racially gerrymandered plans Texas has seen since the Civil War. These maps are designed to increase the political power of white voters while deliberately diminishing the voices of Black and Latino communities across our state.

Under the proposed plan, it would take three Latino votes to carry the same weight as one white vote, and five Black votes to equal just one. That is not democracy—it’s injustice.

I refuse to be complicit in a process that so brazenly undermines the fundamental principle of one person, one vote. That’s why I’ve joined my Democratic colleagues in taking bold action to block this effort and protect the rights of all Texans to fair and equal representation.

This fight is far from over, and I promise to keep standing on the side of justice and the people of District 77. I’ll be pushing out more updates in the coming days, and my office and I will stay in close touch as this critical fight continues.

In service,
Vincent Perez
